While I enjoy working in all medium, my first love is watercolor. Many of my paintings are of the beautiful old townhouses gracing the streets of Harlem, where I live. They aren’t all perfect. This is not a movie set and it is the beauty of their age, the many layers of paint, a sign of housing many lives, that I find appealing.
I am inspired by the history of my surroundings and I’m drawn to paint the very places that once were home to the masters of the Jazz age, Minton’s – the Lenox Lounge – St. Nick’s Pub – The Apollo Theatre, as well as the wonderful shops and restaurants that are so popular today.
2010 brought about two new Series – The Greenwich Village Series and The Rhinebeck Series. One a place where we lived for many years and the other a place where my family still resides. All three are treasured places. I hope you’ll enjoy my watercolors as much as I enjoy painting them.
